Let’s Get Straight To It

So many of the small business owners that I meet ask me how they can improve traffic to their websites. There are many ways you can tackle this issue. From advertising to SEO, social media to networking. However, if you want to double your website traffic, you really need to blog. Consistent blog writing will transform your online visibility. The truth is, most businesses don’t need more ads; they need better content.

In this expert guide, I’ll share proven strategies, insider tips and practical examples to help you attract more readers, boost engagement, and ultimately double your website traffic with expert blogging.

Why Blogging Is Still the Most Powerful Way to Double Your Website Traffic

We live in such a fast-paced, technological world, dominated by social media posts and flashy videos. Some might say blogging is ‘old-school’, a dinosaur destined for extinction. However, they are wrong. Here’s the truth: search engines love fresh, relevant, keyword-rich content. A well-optimised blog can bring in traffic to your website for months or even years after it’s published.

I want you to think of each blog post as a door to your website. The more doors you have (that open with the right keywords and quality content), the easier it is for people to find you and enter. Did you know that in surveys conducted this year, 83% of internet users admitted to reading at least one blog post a month? (source Blogging Wizard.com.) Likewise, according to Databox, 84% of companies find blogging effective at driving traffic to their websites, compared to just 16% who prefer video marketing.

Using blogging to double your website content can be a slow burner. It can take between 3-9 months before a great blog starts to gain traction. Additionally, businesses stated that 61-80% of their organic traffic comes from ‘old’ blog posts. However, the industry is in full agreement that blogging is far from redundant.

Start With a Clear Strategy

Don’t just dive into blog writing. Start with a clear goal. Sit back and think. Who are you trying to reach? What do they need help with? What problems can your blog solve for them?

A clear strategy helps you write content that connects with your audience, rather than just filling space. Here’s a simple three-step formula to consider:

  1. Identify your ideal reader – Picture your target customer. What questions are they asking online? What would make them click on your blog post?
  2. Choose topics that solve problems – Every post should offer a quick win, answer a question, or remove frustration.
  3. Use keywords smartly – Keywords like double your website traffic, should appear naturally throughout your post, especially in your title, first paragraph, subheadings, and conclusion.

When you create blog posts that are intentional, valuable and well-structured, they start to work hard for you. They are marketing engines attracting visitors on autopilot. While you sleep, your blogs are ushering people into your website, giving them the best seat in the house.

Top Blogging Tips to Double Your Website Traffic

So let’s put this into practice. Here are my expert tips that will really help you double your website traffic through blogging.

1. Write for humans first, search engines second

SEO is vitally important, yes, but so is connection. Write your blog in the same way you would talk to someone over a coffee (or in my case, a hot chocolate!). Use their language, not a host of jargon. Break your content down into simple, easy-to-read sentences. Think about a conversation over coffee. If someone is droning on, not pausing for breath, the listener will soon switch off and probably get distracted by the cakes the coffee shop has on offer! Keep your copy digestible (excuse the pun!) and you’ll keep your reader hooked.

Why is that important? Search engines reward engagement. The longer people stay on your site, the better your rankings. So focus on clarity, storytelling and genuine value. When readers trust you, they’ll come back, and that’s a key secret to doubling your website traffic.

2. Nail your headlines

I cannot stress this point enough. You could write the best blog post in the world, but if your headline doesn’t grab attention, nobody will click it. Great headlines are clear, specific, and sometimes a little intriguing. I have created a FREE course all about clickable headlines – you can download it by signing up to my monthly newsletter here.

Just as a small example, try some formulas like:

  • ‘How to [achieve a result] Without [pain point]’
  • ‘X Easy Ways to [desired outcome]’
  • ‘The Secret to {specific benefit]’

For Example:

  • ‘How to Double Your Website Traffic Without Spending on Ads’
  • ’10 Easy Ways to Double Your Website Traffic In 6 Months’
  • ‘The Secret to Successful Blogging To Double Website Traffic’

Notice how in each example, the keyword phrase double your website traffic works beautifully. It’s powerful, searchable, and benefit-driven. You can also use tools like MonsterInsights and Musely to analyse your headline. These tools provide feedback to you on how successful it is likely to be and offer suggestions to improve it. The great news, they are both FREE to use!

3. Consistency Is Paramount

Publishing one brilliant blog post will not change your website traffic overnight. Consistency builds momentum. There are two very good reasons for this. 1. Search engines notice when your site is active, and 2. readers start to expect fresh content.

Try this simple plan:

  • Choose how often you would like to blog. A minimum of once a month is essential. Ideally, once a week is better. If you want to compromise, opt for twice a month.
  • Blogs now need to be a minimum of about 1300 – 1500 words. Go back to the Databox survey, and 82.4% of experts agreed, because longer posts tend to be better researched and equate to a higher ranking.
  • Create and keep a content calendar with themes or a series of blogs you can cover.
  • Reuse snippets from your blogs for Newsletters, Emails and Social Media.

Give it 3-6 months, and you will soon have a content library working quietly in the background to double your website traffic.

4. Optimise every post for SEO (without going over the top!)

SEO sounds technical, but it’s just a way of helping search engines to understand what your content is about. There are some great SEO tools out there, especially on WordPress, like RankMath (my personal favourite), SEO, Yoast, and AIOSEO to help you optimise your posts.

Here’s a few quick pointers to start you off:

  • Use your main keyword (double your website traffic) in the title, introduction and at least one subheading.
  • Add related keywords to your copy (like ‘boost your blog traffic’ or ‘increase website visitors’).
  • Always include Alt text in your images (and yes, you need to add images), and include the keyword phrase if you can.
  • Write a meta description that encourages clicks.
  • Link internally to other blog posts or website pages and externally to reliable sources.

These small, but simple tweaks, will help search engines to rank your content higher, and higher rankings mean more clicks!

5. Repurpose and promote your content everywhere

A blog post doesn’t end when you finally hit the ‘Publish’ button; that’s when the real work begins.

It’s time to promote it:

  • Social media – LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, Pinterest – wherever your audience hangs out!
  • Email Newsletter – Get your subscribers back onto your website
  • Google My Business Profile – Add it as a post – free local advertising at its best!
  • Online Communities – Think about groups you are part of (on social media and networking).

You can repurpose it too:

  • Short LinkedIn posts or carousels
  • Email series
  • Infographics or short videos

Each new format gives your content another chance to reach fresh eyes and another opportunity to double your website traffic.

6. Add visuals and formatting that keeps readers hooked

I touched upon this a little earlier. No one wants to face a wall of text. Use short paragraphs, bullet points, images and bold highlights(but keep these short).

Break up your posts with subheadings (like this one) and visual elements that make scanning easy. This improves readability, increases time spent reading a page, and boosts the chances that visitors will share your content. If you can add a table of contents at the top, too, this helps to make it look more professional and easier to navigate. All of these will help to double your website traffic naturally.

7. Analyse what’s working and do more of it

Check your analytics regularly to see which posts are getting the most visits, shares or conversions. Tools like Google Analytics, Search Console or even Pinterest Analytics can reveal what your audience loves most.

Once you have discovered your high-performing posts, do more in that style. Update them regularly (make sure links are still viable), expand on those topics and interlink them with newer posts. This amplification can quickly double your website traffic without having to write twice as much!

Bonus: Hook Them In

One of the best ways to increase repeat visitors is to offer them an incentive. Think of giving them a free bonus that matches your blog topic.

So, for this blog, as an example, I could offer:

  • A FREE Headline training course
  • A PDF guide to SEO Keywords
  • A template for planning weekly content

Add an email signup form offering this resource (see above for the link to mine). Not only does this increase engagement, but it also grows your email list, so you can keep bringing people back to your site and gradually double your website traffic.
